Last weekend was a bit of a sad one with all the bad news from home and the weather turning cold and wet. We were under the impression that London enjoyed beautiful, sunny weather so it was all a bit of a shock! After a rather drizzly week, the sun broke through on Friday morning, I had rung the girls at Craigslea to wish the fabulous Kate Skinner a happy birthday that morning, they must have sent us some of that Queensland sunshine because it turned into the most beautiful day.
We are both happily plodding along still. Dan is enjoying his work in central London, getting lots of good feedback and braving the rush hour tube journey like a true Londoner (by which I mean he no longer worries about banging into people and has lost his sense of personal space).
I am doing supply teaching in primary schools (less scary than secondary students, they are smaller and therefore I feel I could probably take them) which has been really good. I have seen some of the most charming children in London, and one or two who are not so charming!
We decided to spend the weekend visiting some of London's hot spots starting with Neal's Yard in Covent Garden. Unfortunately we visited the areas tiny cobbled streets on the same day as a signing at the skate shop in the lane which meant there were lots of 12 year old boys squealing like 12 year old girls. We visited the famous Neal's Yard Dairy and Neal's Yard Remedies before having a spot of lunch at Neal's Yard Salad Bar- lovely! We decided to skip the madness that is the Covent Garden Market and head to The Lamb and Flag pub in one of the little lanes nearby.
Sunday was warm and sunny too so we headed off to explore the streets of Notting Hill. We wandered through the gorgeous little shops, oohing and aahing over beautiful things that we can't afford, yet. There were some stalls out along Portobello Road but it was much quieter than the Saturday market which I am VERY excited about visiting, so many beautiful things to purchase!
