London Zoo

Spent the day fighting the crowds (it's a long weekend) at London Zoo. After hearing so many stories about the zoo we were pleased to see that the animals had much better enclosures and there are many improvements being made.

The new gorilla enclosure is much better than the old one which was apparently heartbreaking. But it was upsetting to see the pygmy hippos which I was so excited about. They had horrible little concrete pools and they looked sad.

There were lots of different monkeys, the pygmy marmoset was my favorite, a beautiful sloth and lots of lovely birds, we saw some toucans and owls which was very exciting for me! Dan was delighted that we got to see a taper which was much larger than we thought.

The giraffes were very entertaining, one was dancing around and showing off for us. There was a huge caterpillar shaped hot house full of butterflies and moths. The reptile house was interesting too, it was the location used to film the scene where Harry Potter set the snake free in The Philosophers Stone.

We managed to see almost every animal there (we couldn't find the skunk), we have included photos of our favourites.

There was a big football game on today too so all the fans were out in their team colours. The pub down the road had signs up everywhere advertising the game and saying that it was for "home fans only"! On the walk home from the tube there was broken glass everywhere and two police vans full of bobbies! the pub was still absolutely packed though. We don't know what happened but we might avoid drinking at that pub in future!
