Norway was quite simply one of the most beautiful, amazing places we have ever seen. We flew into Oslo, then Bergen before boarding the Hurtigruten to travel up the coast and trhough the fjords.
Dan found his sea legs straight away while I woke up vomiting, not a nice start! We spent New Year's day in the beautiful town of Trondheim where the snow was deep, fresh and fluffy. We walked to the cathedral where it began to snow big, fat snow flakes. It was breathtaking.
The next night we were eating our dinner, when the captain announced that the Northern Lights had appeared! We all rushed outside, then straight back to put on our warm clothes- it was unbelievably cold! The lights were very moving, we are so lucky to have seen them. At about midnight we entered the Trollfjord, a VERY narrow entrance. The rock was covered in snow and icicles and only a few metres from the boat. There were still traces of the Northern Lights in the sky.
After crossing the Arctic Circle the landscape (and weather) turned really Arctic, the sea was frozen and the snow was piled high! It was such fun! Although there was not a lot of light, the sun kind of got up at about 10am and it was totally dark by 2pm!
Our last town was Tromsø, the gateway to the North Pole. That night we went dog sledging with Alaskan huskies through the snow! Very romantic!
On our London it was almost as cold as Norway! We have had freezing temperatures and a little snow for our start back at work.
